Snow: Nature's white canvas

Here is to all those who are deep in snow, digging out and frustrated.

Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather. John Ruskin

Dust of Snow
by Robert Frost

The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree

Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.

Three cutouts.

more history

This  image and the one in the previous post are from a series of piecesthat  incorperated my mother's table linens with my clothing and fabric pieces. The pieces were done during the time I was working on my 100 day cut out project and after I had the pleasure of viewing Louise Bourgeois fabric book at the MOMA this past May. here is a sample of her work:

materials and tools and anxiety

I couldn't find any good quotes on materials.  So I came up with . "Use what you have, and draw what you see." Keep it simple.  A good book on drawing is the Zen of Drawing By Frederic Franc.

for those of you who need this
Anxiety is a warning sign from the unconscious mind to focus on what you want. (Tad James)

How Heavy is a glass of Water? - 8 oz to 20 oz? It really doesn't matter, it depends on how long you hold it. If I hold it for a minute, no problem. If I hold it for an hour, I will have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you will have to call me an ambulance. In each case it is the same weight, but the longer I hold it the heavier it becomes. That's the way it is with stress. Life is short, enjoy it. (Pamila Ross)

The important thing is this: to be able, at any moment, to sacrifice what we are for what we could become. (Maharishi Mahesh Yogi)

Time

What you are now is what you have been. What you will be is what you are now. (Buddha)

Creativity occurs in the moment, and in the moment we are timeless. (Julia Cameron)

I have realized that the past and future are real illusions, that they exist in the present, which is what there is and all there is. (Alan Watts)

ethereal home 2010 benda
Somewhere I heard or read about someone( the details escape me) who didn't follow the weather. Because once he or she did that she was then living in future ( dwelling in the what ifs and not  in the present moment.
